 | Project title: Bending Light |
Difficulty level: | Elementary school |
Main link: | None |
Hypothesis:
I think, the car will change it's path when going over the salt.
Materials:
24" X 24" flat piece of cardboard (2)
toy car
salt or sugar
glue
The Procedure:
1. Glue salt or sugar on half of cardboard and let it dry.
2. Tilt cardboard up about 6 inches and roll car at an angle down the ramp.
3. Roll car on other cardboard without salt or sugar. Compare the two.
4. When the car slows down, its path will bend.
Results:
The car's path did change when going over the salt. It went in a straight line without the salt. This is supposed to represent a model of a beam of light (the car) chaning speed and bending its path. As soon as the speed of light is changed by the lens (salt), it changes direction slightly.
