Fruit vs. Vegetable What will create mold first?

Project title:
Fruit vs. Vegetable What will create mold first?
Middle school
None

Hypothesis:

I think that the vegetable will produce mold first in a warmer tempature.

Materials:

pencil, paper, ten oranges, and two cabbages. (The teacher wants the students to run the project five times before they can submit the final paper.)Two bowls and a thermastat.

The Procedure:

First I'll cut one of the cabbages into five peices, and place one piece of cabbage in a bowl, and a second piece in the other bowl. Then in the same two bowls, I'll place an orange next to them. Next, I will place one bowl in a cooler temperature and the other bowl in a warmer temperature. When I do my oberservation, I will check the temperture in each bowl and will record on a daily basis to see which item will produce mold first. After I am done with my first run of the experiment I will have to run it four more times. The difficulty I'm experiencing is finding what type of mold cabbage produces, the color it makes, and where to find the best information. I'm hoping I'm running my experiment the correct way.

Results:

It's now day six and mold appear on the vegetable. After submitting my procedure assingnment to my science teacher, I received a negative. I just don't know what to do from here. How can I improve this project.

I think it will be the fruit because of the moisture it contains.
