Genotoxic Property of Narra (Pterocarpus indicus Willd) Extracts

Project title:
Genotoxic Property of Narra (Pterocarpus indicus Willd) Extracts
High school
None

Hypothesis:

1. There are no significant differences on the Growth Reaction between the root apical meristem taken before and after it was treated with
a. 25% concentration
b. 50% concentration
c. 75% concentration
of Narra Bark (pterocarpus indicus Willd) tree extract.
2. There are no changes in terms of growth inhibiton
a. Number of damged cells
b. Changes in Color
c. Number of mitotic cells between control and experimental group

Materials:

For the Extract
750 ml. distilled water, 3
240g, narra
715g, narra
2148g, narra

For the Allium Test:
12 Onions, shootless, removed outer scales and brown plate bottom

For the Fixative Solution:
45% Acetic Acid
55% Ethyl Alcohol
Formaline

The Procedure:

Prepartion of Extract
Boil separately the narra barks in 750 ml. distilled water

Allium Test
Control Group
3 onions on separate cup of distilled water, germinate for 48 hours

Experimental Group
3 onions on the 3 different strength of extraction, germianate for 48 hours.

Results:

Since there are some indigenous tribes of Isabela were taking narra ingested, and their no active research or study ever conducted to determine its therapeutic capabilities. Thus, my study proves that this herbal medicine is toxic, some people may ask why?

According to the experiment, the onions doesn't germinate instead its apical meristem undergone the stage called decomposition. However, that is not only our basis to prove to you that this herbal medicine is toxic, I went to UP-NISMED to make some microscopic studies and shows me that there are damged cells. The tally of dead cell happened to the Mitosis concluded that the higher or the stronger th concentration is the smaller the number of survived cell.
