![]() | Project title: Why Does Salt Melt Ice Faster |
Difficulty level: | High school |
Main link: | None |
Hypothesis:
I believe the salt melts the ice because of the molecules in the ice esacape into the water and the molecules of water is captured on the surface of the ice. Once the ice and the water reach the freezing point they coexist.Adding salt to the system will disrupt the equilibrium. I think the salt molecules will disolve into the water with out changing the chemical potential of the ice.
Materials:
Salt,Ice,and containers
The Procedure:
Get the ice and sprinkle some salt on it
Then get some some more ice (dont put any salt)
Collect data on which melts the fastest
Results:
The ice with the salt will melt the fastest
