Project title:
Do plants grow better in sand or soil?
Middle school
None

Hypothesis:

I think that the plants should grow in both, the sand and the soil. Although the flowers might grow better in the soil, while the vegetable will grow better in the sand. But the grass should grow equaslly well in both of the two.

Materials:

1. 1 package of flower seeds
2. 1 package of vegetable seeds
3. 100 grass seeds
4. 6 plastic cups
5. stapler
6. paper/ or lables(you won't need the stapler if you're using the labels)
7. pen/ pencil
8. ruler
9. water
10. sunlight
11. soil
12. sand

The Procedure:

1. TAKE THE 6 CUPS AND PUT SAND INTO THREE OF THE CUPS AND SOIL IN THE OTHER THREE
2. PUT HALF OF THE FLOWER SEEDS IN ONE OF THE SAND FILLED CUPS AND WHATS LEFT OF THE SEEDS IN A SOIL FILLED CUP.
3. LABEL THESE TWO CUPS FLOWERS
4. PUT A LITTLE BIT MORE SAND AND SOIL OVER THE FLOWER SEEDS TO COVER THEM
5. PUT HALF OF THE VEGETABLE SEEDS IN ONE OF THE SAND FILLED CUPS AND THE OTHER HALF INTO ONE OF THE SOIL FILLED CUPS.
6. LABEL THESE TWO CUPS VEGETABLES.
7. PUT A LITTLE BIT MORE SAND AND SOIL OVER THE VEGETABLE SEEDS TO COVER THEM.
8. PUT 50 GRASS SEEDS IN ONE SAND FILLED CUP AND PUT 50 IN THE SOIL FILLED CUP.
9. REPEAT STEP 4 OR 7
10. WATER THROUGHOUT A 3 WEEK PERIOD
11. ON THE 18 DAY PULL THE PLANTS UP AND MEASURE HOW MUCH THEY HAVE GROWN
12. RECORD YOUR DATA

Results:

THE RESULTS WERE THAT ALL THE PLANTS GREW IN THE SAND AND THE SOIL BUT THE ONES IN THE SOIL GREW BETTER.
