Hypothesis:

Faster music will get your heart pumping faster than slower music.

Materials:

CD player
Kirk Franklin's "Rebirth" CD
- Fast -- "It could've been me"
- Slow -- "Let it Go"
Timer
Participants

The Procedure:

Take the participant's radial pulse for 10 seconds prior to the experiment and multiply that number times 6.
Play the fast song for 15 seconds.
Take the same participant's radial pulse for 10 seconds after fast song.
Multiply that number times 6.
Wait for 2 minutes.
Take the same participant's radial pulse for 10 seconds and multiply this number times 6.
Play the slow song for 15 seconds.
Take the same participant's radial pulse for 10 seconds and multiply this number times 6.

Results:

The exercising rate was at least 20% percent higher than the resting rate. The target heart range for a 12-14 year old was between 83 and 104 beats per minute. The target heart range for a 18 year old was between 81 and 101 beats per minute. The target heart range for a 40 year old was between 72 and 90 beats per minute. The participants' heart rate was measured within the calculated target heart range.
