Hypothesis:

The most cost effiecient boiling appliance will be the solar oven. The most expensive will be the toaster oven.

Materials:

Kill A Watt - Measures Voltage, Line Frequency, and Power Factor.
Amp Meter
Gas Meter
Melitta 1.7 liter Express Kettle - 1500 Watts
GE Profile Spacemaker Microwave - 1.8 cubic feet - 1100 Watts
Vitamix Total Nutrition Center - 2 liters - 1380 watts
3-1/2-qt Copper Bottom Tea Kettle
GE® 36" Built-In Electric Cooktop
Pyrex container - 1 cup
Solar oven
Thermometer
Gas Stove
Water
Toaster Oven
Timer

The Procedure:

step 1 Assemble materials.
step 2 Fill the express kettle chamber with 1 cup of H2O.
step 3 Place thermometer in water inside kettle.
step 4 Record temp. reading (in Celsius).
step 5 Plug in KILL A WATT ™ meter into wall.
step 6 Plug express kettle into KILL A WATT™.
step 7 Turn on express kettle immediately starting the timer.
step 8 When temperature reaches 100 degrees Celsius, stop timer and express kettle.
step 9 Record kilowatt hours used and time taken.
step 10 Repeat steps 1-9 with each appliance.
