 | Project title: Floating Vs. Sinking |
Difficulty level: | Elementary school |
Main link: | None |
Hypothesis:
The foil will float as long as it is not heavier than the force of the water under it.
Materials:
1.Aluminum foil
2.Water
3.Hammer
4.Bucket
The Procedure:
Fill the bucket with water. Make a little boat with the foil and put it on the water.
Take the foil out of the water and make it into a little ball. Then take it outside to a sidewalk and hammer the ball until you cannot make it any smaller. Fold it over and hammer it more.
Put the little foil ball in the water. Record observation
Make the foil smaller and put in the water.
Continue the trials until you cannot make the ball any smaller.
Results:
The foil got so small it was heavier than the water it could push away. So it sank.
