Project title:
Chemical Effects
Middle school
None

Hypothesis:

If I grow bacteria, mold and collect pond water and then apply chlorine, ammonia, and peroxide I will find that the; Chlorine: will affect all three life forms.Ammonia: will affect all three life forms.
Peroxide: It will affect the bacteria and mold, but probably not the pond water.

Materials:

1) Microscope
2) Petri dishes
3) Dropper
4) Chemicals; Chlorine
Ammonia
Peroxide
5) Gelatin
6) Plastic gloves
7) Slides/ Slide covers
8) Journal

The Procedure:

1) Grow bacteria, mold and collect pond water
2) Record the state of bacteria, mold and pond water
3) Apply chemicals
4) Record the state of bacteria, mold and pond water again
5) Compare control group to experimental group
6) Record comparison

Results:

Mold:Chlorine:Killed all life
Ammonia:Destroyed fruiting bodies but not spores
Peroxide:Destroyed fruiting bodies but not spores
Pond Water:Chlorine:Killed life but zygosphores regrew
Ammonia:Killed life but not as effective as chlorine
Peroxide:Didn't do anything
Bacteria:Chlorine:Killed little life
Ammonia:Didn't do anything
Peroxide:Didn't do anything
