Edwin Powell Hubble (November 20, 1889 – September 28, 1953) was an American astronomer. He is famous for helping us better understand extragalactic astronomy. It was Hubble that discovered that the universe is continuously expanding. Hubble discovered that the Milky Way is just one of millions of galaxies. This has helped all astronomers better understand where we stand in this universe. He was an accomplished sportsmen (basketball) and actually graduated and worked as a lawyer for one year. The Hubble Space Telescope is named in his honor.
